Late die state, Breen state II. The obverse fields are wavy and a shallow bulge passes through the base of the date. Outstanding eye appeal. EAC grade VF35. Called VF35 and tied for CC#11 in the Noyes census, his photo #36896. The Norweb/Hesselgesser provenance is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 10; 11 finer.

1793. Chain reverse, "AMERICA" in legend with periods. . S-4, R3+. PCGS graded VF-30. Rather glossy light olive brown and chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and the planchet is completely void of flaws or vedrdigris. The only marks are a pinprick in the field below TY and a tiny scratch near the rim under the 9 in the date. The date and legends are complete and bold and the periods following LIBERTY and the date are clear. An attractive, well balanced example of this "Redbook" variety. Early die state, Breen state I. EAC grade VF20. The "Periods" feature is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 15 in all VF grades with 8 finer.
Estimated Value $25,000 - 50,000.

Lot 253
1793. Chain reverse, "AMERICA" in legend with periods. . S-4 R3+ Basal State-1. Mostly glossy chocolate brown. A dull dent on the left side of the reverse and a short scratch at K-1 on the reverse are the only notable marks. Basically just a very well worn Chain cent. The portrait and LIBERTY are weak but can be made out rather easily, as can the chain and the legend inside. The date is gone and the two periods that characterize the variety are missing as well. The attribution is easy, however, given the close spacing of the letters in LIBERTY.
Estimated Value $400 - 800.

1793 Flowing Hair Cent. Wreath reverse, vine and bars edge. . S-8, R3. NGC graded MS-63 Brown. Frosty dark steel brown and chocolate with frosty lighter steel brown toning in protected areas. No spots, stains, or planchet flaws. The only marks are a barely visible rim bruise left of the L in LIBERTY and a thin horizontal nick at EH in CENT. Outstanding eye appeal. MDS, Breen die state II late. The bisecting reverse die crack is clear between the base of the first T in STATES and the dentils over the second A in AMERICA. EAC grade AU55, just a bit of friction on the highest points of the hair from mint state. Solidly in the condition census with only a single confirmed mint state example known in the EAC census. Pop 1. Finest graded S-8 at NGC.
Estimated Value $30,000 - 60,000.

Struck very slightly off center to K-4 leaving some of the border beads tight to the rim. EAC grade EF45. Outstanding eye appeal for the grade. The Hesselgesser provenance is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 11; 28 finer.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 24,000.
